What should you bring to an audition?

An audition is nerve-wracking enough without having to deal with some kind of emergency caused by forgetting an important item.

From how to deal with spills to what your auditioners will expect you to bring, this list will set you up for success!

PRO TIP: Make sure to pack this up the night before and put it in your car or bag before you go to sleep!

What to bring to an audition

  • Water Bottle. Most places won’t have easy access to water in their waiting area, and you need to keep your vocal cords hydrated!

  • Snack. You could end up waiting for hours, and if you’re hungry, you’ll be distracted during your audition.

  • Makeup. If you wear makeup, we probably don’t even need to tell you to bring some for touch-ups, but don’t forget it!

  • Spare set of clothes. Specifically, make sure you have a replacement shirt. You don’t want to walk into your audition with a big water stain.

  • Physical copy of your sides/monologues. The auditioners might expect you to have one with you. Even if they don’t, you’ll look hella prepared when you whip it out.

  • Distraction. As you wait for your turn, you’ll need to distract yourself so you don’t fixate on the upcoming audition and get anxious. Bring something fun but easy to pay half-attention to, like a fidget spinner, crossword, or light reading.

  • And of course, any medication/other important items that make you feel prepared or that you may need if you have to sit at the audition location for hours and hours.

Make sure you don’t forget anything!

Using the above, write out a list of everything you need (don’t try to keep it all straight in your head, you’ll forget something).

Pack it all up the night before. Load it up in a backpack or a big purse. If you’ll be driving to the audition, put it in your trunk.

Double-check you have everything packed the night before, and then check again before you leave the next morning.

You’ll sleep well and feel good before the audition knowing you have everything you need, and you are well prepared for whatever the audition throws your way!
