YOUR KILLER IS…

Day Jobs are a Vampire

TAKE QUIZ AGAIN

Not all the time, but much of the time, we can't afford to eat, drink, and do art without having a "day job" that's not our first pick.

This is totally fine. You need money to do stuff.

But what if your job sucks so much, it's keeping you from doing stuff?

If your day job is taking up so much of your time and energy you're not making anything, it's time to switch things up.

Action Plan

  1. Write down every component of your day job and place them in either a "Good" or "Energy Drain" column. The hours, the pay, the tasks, the people, think about all of it and how it affects you.

  2. Sort the "Energy Drain" items from biggest drain to lowest. Start with the biggest items, and work your way down the list. What can you do to change your situation and avoid that energy drain?

  3. If there's absolutely no way to improve, and your job just sucks... it's time to look for something else. Look for jobs that don't include the things in the "Energy Drain" column.

Freelancing is an option, no matter what your mom says.

I'm a full-time freelance writer and have been for four years now.

It's hard, but it's a valid alternative to the usual day job. (I love it and will never go back to being "normally employed" if I can help it.)
